About Compare PDF
Compare PDF extracts the text from two documents and diffs them, highlighting what was added and what was removed. It is the fastest way to find out what actually changed between the contract you sent and the one that came back.
The comparison works on text, not visual layout: moved images, restyled headings and repagination will not show up as differences. Scanned documents need OCR PDF first, since a scan contains no text to compare.
How to use Compare PDF
- Load the original document as the first PDF.
- Load the revised version as the second.
- Run the comparison to see additions and deletions highlighted.
- Work through the differences page by page.
Frequently asked questions
Does it detect formatting changes?
No. Only the text is compared, so a change of font, colour or spacing with the same wording will not be reported.
It found no differences, but the files look different.
The wording is probably identical and the change is visual, or one of the documents is a scan with no extractable text. Run OCR PDF and compare again.
