About PDF to Excel

PDF to Excel extracts the text from each page and splits it into cells wherever there is a meaningful horizontal gap between words, producing a workbook with one sheet per source page.

Column detection is a position-based heuristic, not true table recognition. Clean, well-spaced tables come out well; dense tables, multi-line cells and merged headers usually need tidying afterwards. Check the result before relying on it for calculations.

How to use PDF to Excel

  1. Choose the PDF containing the table you need.
  2. Run the extraction — each page becomes its own sheet.
  3. Download the .xlsx workbook.
  4. Review the column split and fix any rows the heuristic misread.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my columns come out merged?

Columns are detected from the horizontal gaps between words. When a table's columns sit close together, the gap is too small to detect and the values land in one cell.

Does it work on scanned tables?

Not directly — a scan has no text to extract. Run OCR PDF first, then convert.
