About Redact PDF
Redact PDF removes sensitive content properly. Drawing a black rectangle over text in an ordinary editor only covers it — the words are still in the file, and anyone can select, copy or extract them. That mistake has caused real disclosure incidents.
This tool blacks out the marked areas and then rasterizes the affected page, so the underlying text and vector content is destroyed outright rather than hidden. Pages you did not mark are left completely untouched and keep their selectable text, so only the pages that needed redacting pay the cost of becoming images.
How to use Redact PDF
- Open the PDF containing information you need to remove.
- Draw a box over each piece of content to redact.
- Check every marked area carefully — redaction cannot be undone once saved.
- Save and download; marked pages are flattened with the content permanently gone.
Frequently asked questions
Can redacted text be recovered?
No. The page is re-rendered as an image with the content already blacked out, so the original text is not present in the saved file in any form.
Why does the redacted page become an image?
That is what makes the removal real. Rasterizing is the only way to guarantee the underlying characters are gone rather than just covered up.
Does it affect the whole document?
No. Only pages with redaction boxes are rasterized. Every other page keeps its original text and vector content.
